Ubi on Far Cry 3: PC has "more grunt," but console differences "might not be as much" as expected
The Far Cry franchise was born on PC, wrapped in swaddling Hawaiian shirts and making rigs scream like babies. So, will Far Cry 3 follow in its footsteps? Well, kind of. But consoles are hardly getting the short end of the stick. Or perfectly placed tree branch clothesline trap, as it were.
"The PC does have a lot more grunt under the hood - or it can have grunt - so there's a lot more that we can push there," lead game designer Jamie Keen told VideoGamer. "That doesn't mean to say, 'Let's only push PC and leave the consoles behind.' We will keep pushing to get as much out of the consoles as we possibly can."
"When we do finally unveil what the console versions looks like, I think people are are going to be surprised. Yeah, there are going to be differences, but it might not be as much as people realise... So, there is going to be a difference, but as much as we can minimise that gap, we're certainly working as hard as we possibly can to do that."
Curses! Things aren't looking so hot for our meticulously mapped bumps, spectral wolf lighting, and the like. Granted, what we've seen so far is far from hideous. And we just resisted, like, 35 "far cry from" puns in that last sentence alone, so you'd better be grateful.
