Trials of the Nine in Destiny 2 "staying on hiatus indefinitely" for the time being
It appears Trials of the Nine in Destiny 2 will remain on hiatus "indefinitely," according to Bungie.
Trials of the Nine went on hiatus during Season 4 of Destiny 2, and it seems the 3v3 elimination mode will remain on vacation for the foreseeable future.
Bungie said in its weekly update it doesn't have a timeline for when it may return, so consider it on hold indefinitely.
The weekend event was first introduced in 2015 with Trials of Osiris. Bungie reintroduced the trials in Destiny 2 as Trials of the Nine, which brought with it a few changes to the formula.
Apparently, these changes "never really hit the same mark," and the development team was "unhappy with its role in the ecosystem."
"The new activity wasn’t achieving the goal of bringing the community together every weekend," reads the update. "Both Destiny and the online PvP scene have evolved since 2015, so we don’t believe that bringing back the 2015 version of Trials of Osiris would accomplish what our goals are today."
Trials will therefore "stay on hiatus indefinitely" until Bungie has a "solid prototype for a pinnacle PvP endgame activity." In short, it will not be making a return over the course of the next few seasons.
