TownCraft: iOS town-builder receives Screen Australia funding
TownCraft developer Flat Earth Games has received financial backing as part of a Screen Australia fund geared towards supporting the country's game talent.
We reported on the $2.6 million funding pool here. It will be allocated across 21 game projects moving forward.
Flat Earth Games announced its funding over on its blog, and confirmed it would be goign towards further development of TownCraft. It's currently out on iOS at AUD$5.49, USD$4.99, £2.99 or €4.49, but the money will be used to localise the game in new markets and bring it to other formats.
Fiona Cameron, COO of Screen Australia, said in a statement, “We’re thrilled to be able to support Flat Earth Games to build on the early success of TownCraft by launching the game overseas and porting it on to different platforms. The first version of the game was a hit at PAX Australia, and has had a positive start on the App Store. Flat Earth Games will benefit from an injection of capital to turn the initial excitement into a sustainable business.”
Leigh Harris Co-Director of Flat Earth Games added, “This funding will allow us to ensure that TownCraft has the best possible shot at a successful international launch. We’ll be able to make sure we have strong language support, hit as many platforms as we can, and can market the game properly, really giving us the best possibly shot at turning our great start into a big success.”
