Tomb Raider sells 8.5M, becomes best-selling entry in franchise history
The most recent Tomb Raider has sold over 8.5 million copies, making it the top-selling game in the franchise's history.
The Tomb Raider reboot, which came out in 2013, has sold 8.5 million copies so far. The feat includes last year's Definitive Edition release. (Thanks Gamespot).
Developer Crystal Dynamics broke the news today saying that the game has now become the best-selling entry in the series' history. On launch, the game broke first-day and first-month sales records, according to developer.
"Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level," Crystal Dynamics studio head Darrell Gallagher said in a statement. "The game's incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players."
Following the game's release, Square Enix said that launch sales numbers were not enough, as they have failed to hit projections.
A new entry in the series, in the from of Rise of the Tomb Raider is due for release this year on Xbox 360 and Xbox One as a timed exclusive.
