THQ: Saints Row: The Third ships 3.8m, kids dropped
THQ has decided to exit kids’ licensed video games completely, focusing instead on its core game franchises and future digital initiatives.
Speaking in an investor announcement, the firm said it will realign its resources for existing consoles, "new and emerging platforms" and titles which can accelerate digital revenues.
THQ is exiting the kids’ licensed entertainment sector, it was confirmed today, but plans to continue to sell certain previously released titles.
“THQ will be a more streamlined organization focused only on our strongest franchises,” said Brian Farrell, president and CEO.
“The success of Saints Row: The Third is an example of what our revised strategy and focus can achieve. We have now shipped 3.8 million units globally and are currently expecting to ship between five and six million units lifetime on this title.
"Additionally, our robust digital content offerings for this game have resulted in the highest digital revenue of any console title in our history.”
Upcoming THQ releases include UFC Undisputed 3, Darksiders II, inSANE, Saints Row, Warhammer 40,000 and a new title from ex-Ubisoft man Patrice Désilets.
THQ will discuss its new business model in more depth during its Q3 2012 conference call on February 2.
