This is how much you could earn as an Overwatch League pro player
Overwatch League is still signing players. Have you got what it takes to earn this pay cheque?
Blizzard has detailed Overwatch League minimum player salaries and benefits, giving us a glimpse at what's in it for those with the skills to go pro.
For starters, all Overwatch League players will receive a minimum salary of $50,000 per annum, and must be granted a minimum one year contract with the option to extend for a second year.
In addition to the base cash, Overwatch pro players will be provided with health insurance and a retirement savings plan. There are other, esports-specific benefits, too, including "player housing and practice facilities during the season which will meet professional standards set by the Overwatch League".
In addition to salaries, teams must pay out 50% of all performance bonuses earned - prizes from play-offs, for example - to their players. There's $3.5 million on the table in Season 1 of the Overwatch League, including a cool $1 million for the champion, so that could add up - and remember the salary figure quoted above is only the minimum amount.
Other conditions revealed today include word that Overwatch League teams can be anywhere from six to 12 players in size, and there are no restrictions on country of birth or residence - so you can be scouted or transfer to a better-paying team outside your region.
Overwatch League teams will begin signing players from August 1 and lock in their teams by October 31. Every single Overwatch player is eligible to join, by the way, although Blizzard has provided franchise owners with a scouting report highlighting top talent and potential.
Seven teams will participate in Overwatch League Season 1. It kicks off later this year but has not been otherwise dated.
We can probably expect more information at BlizzCon in November if not before then.
