This is Doom's take on King of the Hill mode and consumable items

Multiplayer in the new Doom brings back an old favourite, with a modern twist.

Bethesda has revealed how the King of Hill mode will play out in the Doom multiplayer.

The mode is called Warpath, and the "hill" capture point is constantly moving in a circle around the map along a clearly marked path. Meanwhile, the demon rune power-up is moving on the opposite side of this path.

"Players have to decide where they want to be: rushing toward the power-up to turn into a Marine-destroying Demon; clustered around the capture point to defend or steal control; or simply roaming around looking to pick off any errant foes," wrote Bethesda.

Hack Modules were also introduced. These are one-time consumables you earn through levelling up. There's a number of them, and Bethesda was quick to point out these are not tied to microtransactions.

Examples include Supply Timer, which displays respawn timers on pick-ups. Retribution, which shows the location and health of the last player who killed you. Scout reveals locations of all enemies for a few seconds after spawning. Power Seeker, which shows the location of nearby power-ups.

Being single-use items, all Hack Modules are on timers that pause when you die.

Doom is out May 13 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
