This analyst feels Microsoft's gone back to its Xbox 360 strategy after Kinect drop
Microsoft dropped Kinect as a mandatory part of the Xbox One experience yesterday, along with the announcement of a cheaper hardware bundle, and one analyst feels that the company has now reverted back to its old Xbox 360 strategy.
In an email report sent to VG247, IHS Director, Head of Games Piers Harding-Rolls said of Microsoft's move, "IHS believes that this is confirmation that Kinect is not a major decision making factor in buying a Xbox One - at this stage games and price are the key factors involved.
"In effect, Microsoft has reverted to its Xbox 360 Kinect strategy and with a likely drop in interest from third-parties, Kinect for Xbox One has suddenly shifted from central to the Xbox vision to the periphery.
"However, later in the cycle when adoption is more mass market aligned and entertainment functionality is more heavily built out, Microsoft will be hoping that the value of Kinect will be more easily demonstrated and in demand."
Meanwhile, Microsoft's Yusuf Medhi has revealed that the company is now looking at how the dropping of Kinect could allow for greater processing power in games. He's also claimed that those who bought an Xbox One with Kinect have purchased a "premium" experience.
What do you make of that then?
