Thief development rumours "blown out of proportion"

Thief hasn't had as many development issues as gossip suggests, according to former Eidos Montreal boss Stephane D'Astous.

Speaking to Polygon, D'Astous addressed rumours that Thief's development has been quite troubled, commenting that reports on the matter were exaggerated, and "a little bit harsh".

"Thief has been a long project. If you take into perspective every different element, it was blown out of proportion in some aspect," he said.

"Every triple-A has its up and downs and I guess we were exposed more to the public when we were at the bottom of the barrel. That was a long time ago.

"The new team and producer has turned the corner and they're doing a good job. That is one of my biggest regrets, not to be at the head of the studio that would deliver Thief."

Thief is due on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2014.

D'Astous announced his departure from Square Enix today, citing irreconcilable differences of opinion as to how the business should be run.
