"There shouldn't be any difference" in content between games, films - Cage

Quantic Dream boss David Cage has expressed his frustration with double standards for entertainment content, which he believes are far more lax for TV and film than for games.

Speaking to GameInformer, Cage said he's had experience with the games industry proving hesitant to accept adult content which wouldn't raise an eyebrow in other forms of media.

"Heavy Rain was about child abduction. When you say it in a blunt way like that it’s like, 'Oh my god – what are you going to do? Are we going to see tortured kids?' No, no, no, no, no. So we need to reassure people because they always fear the worst," he said.

"We need to explain, 'Look, I’m not trying to create something shocking. This is not what I do for a living. We tried to do something meaningful and sensible – something that people will react positively to.'"

Cage said the conservatism of the games industry with regards to topics like sex and violence can be surprising.

"When you have two characters, two adults, performing love, and they end up doing what two others falling in love usually do, they end up making love. Well in a game it’s a big deal," he said.

"Where in a film – oh my god, did you see Game of Thrones? There is some sex there, right? And that’s great, but in games, oh my god, I mean if you show *** it’s terrible. All I’m saying is that I believe that games should have the same constraints regarding censorship as films and TV series. There shouldn’t be any difference."

I really want to know what word GI censored there. Quantic Dream's next game is Beyond: Two Souls, due on PlayStation 3 later this year.
