Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call unlikely to spawn sequels

Square Enix is thinking of 3DS re-release Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call as the last entry in the rhythm action series.

In a Famitsu interview translated by Polygon, producer Ichiro Hazama said that apart from a few pieces of DLC, the series is coming to an end in the best way possible.

"We're thinking that we'd like this to be the final Theatrhythm. It'll be the newest, the best, and the final one," he said.

"A lot of rhythm action game sequels don't include the songs from the original game, but with our project, if we didn't include tunes like 'Clash on the Big Bridge' [FF5] or 'Isn't It Wonterful' [FF10], you can't place the FF crown on that. So instead of just adding new songs, we want to have this game be the base upon which we add new songs and try to get as close to a complete song list as possible."

Curtain Call will have an additional 90 songs on top of the whole set list from the original Theatrhythm release. It also packs in a "quest medley" mode, collectible cards, and a new multiplayer mode.

We got some early screenshots of the 3DS entry recently. It hasn't been confirmed for Western release, but was trademarked in North America, which is a good sign. It hits Japan in northern spring 2014.
