The Walking Dead Social Game shuffles on to Facebook

Robert Kirkman's tale of post-zombie-apocalypse survival continues its slow creep across all forms of media with the arrival of AMC's The Walking Dead Social Game on Facebook.

AMC and social game developers RockYou and Eyes Wide Games have teamed-up to create The Walking Dead Social Game for Facebook.

Speaking to IGN about the launch of the game's open beta, Eyes Wide Games CEO, Stephen Griffin, said "You start the game in a prequel state. So it actually all starts before Rick wakes up from his coma. And you’re with Shane and Lori en route to Atlanta. The game is divided into chapters so the first chapter is this prequel state. And then every few months we’re going to release a new chapter."

Each new subsequent chapter will represent a series of the AMC TV series, Griffin went on to say, and there will be the opportunity to interact with characters from the TV show.

Thanks to the official partnership with AMC, Eyes Wide Games is also able to interweave its own lore, including the chance to depict a character who has only previously been seen in the TV show as a zombie, "If you saw the webisodes about Bicycle Girl the then you know how this works," Griffin said. "We’re taking that same approach. And we’re sprinkling it throughout."

The Walking Dead Social Game will feature strategy elements and all-out zombie bashing, as well as connected features like having your Facebook friends appear in game as Walkers.

The Walking Dead Social Game open beta is now under-way on Facebook.
