The Walking Dead is not coming to Australian consoles

Telltale has confirmed that it won't be bringing console version of The Walking Dead to Australians following an 18+ international classification.

"Sorry, but due to the OFLC ratings laws in Australia and New Zealand, and the fact that this is a mature game, we do not currently have plans to release the game there on consoles," a Telltale representative wrote on the game's forums.

The game has not been Refused Classification - that is, judged to high impact for the MA15+ category and banned from retail - by the Australian Classification Board; it seems Telltale may have choses not to submit the zombie adventure for classification at all.

The Walking Dead was expected to hit antipodean consoles right up until last week's network updates, when it failed to materialise as expected.

A Mac and PC version is available through Steam; whether Telltale leaves it there or pulls it from the Australian and New Zealand storefront remains to be seen. Get in quick, just in case.

Australia has a history of refusing classification to gory games, especially those with adult ratings overseas; the local version of Left 4 Dead 2, for example, is heavily censored.
