The three-year dev cycle offers "the freedom to fail in the creative process," says Activision
Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare will be the first game to release utilizing Activision's new three-year development cycle program for its Call of Duty franchise. Activision's publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg believes that the new cycle allows for more experimentation.
The three-year development cycle allows each of the studios working on the franchise a three-year period to develop a new entry, instead of the two-year period that was previously in place. Speaking to Game Informer as part of their June issue, publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said, "Moving to a three-year cycle allows the teams a couple of things.
"First of all, it gives them the freedom to fail in the creative process. It allows there to be things that don’t make it onto the disc. In a two-year process, every single line of code is like a race to the submission. We want to be able to try new things, try new core mechanics, and try new approaches within the game."
Do you think the new game will benefit from this and move beyond the stagnation?
Thanks, MP1st.
