The Ship: Remasted delayed by one week
The Ship: Remasted needs to go back in the oven.
We had expected The Ship: Remasted to drop this week but Blazing Griffin has elected to delay launch by one week to February 23.
"Thanks to everyone for their comments and also for voicing your concerns," Blazing Griffin said in a Steam Community update.
"Launching a game like this is a delicate process and we were also concerned about the impact of negative reviews will have on the future of the game. We did feel that on balance there were more benefits to launching today than later, but given the feedback from the community, we've moved to a more suitable solution."
It sounds like closed beta feedback from Kickstarter backers and The Ship fans was the primary motivation for the decision.
"We believe this is the best starting point for building a new Ship community and, well, we wouldn't be doing very well at the first step if we didn't listen to you," the development team said.
"Some people may not be happy with the product we're offering right now. But, we believe that a combination of Ship fans and Early Access fans are a strong foundation to build a community on and we're confident if you stick with us for the duration (even if you don't buy the game right away), you'll be happy about the progress that is made."
In the meantime, limited relay server functionality has been released to closed testing players, and dedicated servers should be available within a few weeks.
Remasted is a pun-friendly HD remake of an unusual 2007 shooter which began life as a Half-life 2 mod. Developer Blazing Griffin hasn't had the necessary rights to update the original release, so the remake is the only way to deliver updates to the experience.
If you've never experienced The Ship, it's worth checking out. Set on a 1920's cruise ship, it has players tasked with hunting down one specific target each - without being caught, or killed themselves. There's a full single=player story mode as well as a multiplayer mode which may well appeal to fans of Assassin's Creed and Spy Party.
