The Secret World Templar teaser puts a name to Beanie Girl
Beanie Girl, the shotgun-wielding poster girl of the Templars, is called Rose, and she has plenty to tell us about The Secret World's oldest faction.
In an interview with IGN which accompanied the new trailer, director Ragnar Tørnquist said London, the Templar's home territory, is the largest hub in the game - and it's not just for members, either.
"Large areas of the hub are communal for all factions. There's a bar to hang out, dance and have drinks, there are stores and other useful amenities and there's a theatre hall where players can put on plays and shows. Additionally, if you venture into the underbelly of Darkside, there's a free-for-all PvP fightclub down there," he said.
Rørnquist explained that unlike the other societies, the Templars don't care if the world knows the faction exists, and don't bother to dispel or promote rumours. Their primary goal is to defeat evil and rule the world according to strict principals - with definitions of good and evil which others might not always agree with - and, of course, to beat the snot out of those upstart Illuminati.
"It didn't help that the Templars nearly eradicated their enemy during the Middle Ages in Europe, prompting the Illuminati's move to - and eventual control over - the New World," Tørnquist said.
"There is no love lost between the two factions, although Templars and Illuminati members do team up to fight the greater darkness. The Templars trust no one but their own, but consider anyone who takes up arms against evil to be allies of sorts… unless they're wearing the Illuminati blue, of course."
The Templars' military forces are commanded by a Force Marshal, who is advised by a shadowy council of Masters, and a mysterious Grand Master. Aklthough big on discipline and unquestioningobedience, but have some inter-faction political splits; a group called the New Templars is slowly gaining sway and promoting independence in agents.
No release date has been set for The Secret World. Check out the new video below; at the end, a short profile is given for Rose - if only poor old "Milkshake Girl" had been so lucky.
