The Order: 1886 confirmed to be a franchise, may branch out into other media
At the first tech demo for The Order: 1886 at Gamescom today, Ready at Dawn CEO Ru Weerasuriya told VG247 that the game will be a franchise. This came after he stated that the "first game" takes place in post-industrial London. Weerasuriya also said "that it may branch out into other media."
This isn't a huge surprise, as the majority of triple-A games these days are created with a franchise in mind. Still, it speaks of a certain confidence in the project. The talk of other media also leaves room for speculation. We might see a Vita spin-off for the game, as well as an eventual sequel. It could also mean a film or TV project. Still, that is very much speculation at this point.
Weerasuriya also confirmed that The Order: 1886 will launch in 2014. It's a PlayStation 4 exclusive, and you can get an idea of how Ready at Dawn created the environment and the alternate history line over on the PS Blog.
