The Metroid: Samus Returns Special Edition has a reversible cover that pays tribute to the Game Boy original

The Metroid: Samus Returns Special Edition comes with a special cover that you can reverse to make it look like a Game Boy game.

If you hadn't noticed, this is the same cover of Metroid 2: Return of Samus, the original Game Boy release which came out in 1991, and the game Samus Returns is a remake of.

It looks pretty good, and Nintendo even kept the old screenshots on the Game Boy cover and the all the rest of the styling typical of that era. Take a look:

YouTube channel GameXplain (via Mashable) showed a video unboxing the whole thing, including a bunch of other items releasing around the same time such as the Metroid amiibo.

This neat touch is only part of the Special Edition, though. The Special Edition also comes with a CD collection of music from across the series.

Metroid: Samus Returns is out September 15 on Nintendo 3DS.
