The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's cooking system explained
Everything you need to know about one of the cutest of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's new survival systems.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild throws out some of the series tropes we're familiar with in favour of a more modern open world approach, with an element of survival gameplay.
Not everyone is going to be on board this change, but Alex Donaldson reckons Breath of the Wild is one of the most exciting Zeldas ever, and Arekkz seems to have come away impressed, too. In the video above, he goes on a deep dive into how the cooking system worked in the E3 2016 hands-on demo.
It's not just a matter of offing animals and gathering plants then chowing down; there are various effects and bonuses you can unlock with specific recipes. This is interesting because it can act as a gating system; if you have a food item that boosts your stamina, you can climb a cliff that would otherwise be impassable. This seems like a bit of a nod to the old Zelda system in which you needed specific tools earned in earlier dungeons to reach the next one - something Breath of the Wild has discarded.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild releases in 2017 for Wii U and NX, whatever the heck that is.
