The infamous buried Atari cartridges have earned $107,000 so far

The Atari E.T. cartridges, famously buried in a landfill in Alamogoro, New Mexico, are worth a lot now that they've been dug up.

The excavation of those cartridges in 2013 focus of the documentary Atari: Game Over. Since then, according to Alamogoro News, eBay sales of the cartridges (which actually include a few games aside from E.T., like Asteroids and Missile Command) have generated $107,930.15. Of this, the city of Alamogoro has received $65,037.78.

There are still 297 cartridges being held onto, which may be sold at a later date, or may end up being the subject of a second documentary. Several of the cartridges have found places in museums around the world, while others have gone to private collectors.

E.T. The Extra Terrestrial was an infamously bad game, but it seems as though it is doing some good now.
