The economy system in Escape from Tarkov sounds interesting
A look at trading in Escape from Tarkov is available in the video below, and it sounds as though it will feature an interesting economy system.
In the video, Westie breaks down what is currently known about trading in the title, via screenshots the developer released recently.
Dealers, Flea Markets and Weekly Auctions will be available, and at this point, we're unsure how Flea Markets or Auctions will work completely, as there isn't any footage of either available.
But we do know that the Flea Market is player-only and prices are set by the player. Items can be put up for sale once every 24 hours.
As with other online games with an Auction house, players can bid on items, but the auctions will only be available once a week.
In the clip shown in the video above of the Dealer, you'll note he sells health, food, storage, guns, ammo and more. He will obviously also purchase items from the player. These Dealers are discovered by exploring and prices will vary depending upon the player's familiarity with said Dealer.
The more interesting aspect is that each Dealer will have a biography next to their portrait. This will link into the Contract Wars universe, the previous title created by developer Battlestate Games, as it and Escape from Tarkov are "somewhat linked," according to Westie.
AI traders can also run out of money, like in other games, but in Escape from Tarkov they can also get sick or die.
There are three different currencies available in the game and with most titles, certain items will cost more than others.
The weapons also list the country of origin, so it is possible certain dealers will only purchase items made in the region they are from. And maybe only accepts the currency for that country. That's just speculation at this point, but the possibility doesn't seem remote.
As previously reported, these currencies will be separate from real world currencies and will have their own exchange rates.
Players can also become traders themselves and open their own shops and face the same challenges of the AI traders. These challenges include taxes, for example.
Be sure to give the rest of the video a watch. If you start from the beginning, you will also get a look at some gameplay.
Alpha testing for Escape from Tarkov kicked off in August. Information on registering for all upcoming tests can be found on the official website.
