A Global Events feature will be added to The Division when patch 1.7 finally drops, and it was discussed in Massive's latest State of the Game stream.

According to the developers, Global Events are basically a set of modifiers applied to pre-existing PvE activities in The Division.

Participating allows players to earn a new currency called Global Event Tokens. These are used to purchase special gear vanity items, but the team didn't show these off today.

In the video above, Arekkz states there will be one Global Event held every month and it will run for an entire week. There will also be leaderboards so players will be able to see how well they are doing, comparatively.

These events will be available to all players who wish to experience PvE in the game's open-world. As stated above, whenever a player participates in PvE during a Global Event, they will earn the respective currency. These will be turned into caches by a Global Event specific vendor and traded in for vanity items.

There will also be activity, group and global modifiers applied. When these modifiers are active, players will earn more event tokens. Additional ones will also be activated for certain missions. These will be displayed on the map under Activity Modifiers and Group Modifiers.

Arekkz goes over the finer details of these modifiers in the video above, and they are varied. If you want even more information, he covered Global Events last week after a visit to co-developer Ubisoft Reflections in Newcastle. Give that video a watch if you haven'y already.

A release for Update 1.7 has not been set, but Massive said the PTS for it should start within the coming weeks.
