The Division: certain visuals on console can be disabled for better frame rate
You already know that the console version of The Division contains graphical customization options to make the game look better. According to a Ubisoft Massive developer the ability to change the graphics options can also make your game run better.
During an event for The Division in New York City, Team Epiphany was told certain light effects could be disabled in the game to improve frame rate on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
"It's great that we are giving [players] the option to disable certain light effects to improve frame rate in the consoles," said the developer. "I don't know of any other game that does that off the top of my head. So if players want to choose frame rate over visuals, they can if they want."
This is a pretty nice feature considering consoles tend to get left out when it comes to graphics customization. Both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One version feature Chromatic Aberration and Sharpen Image settings which provide players with an option to improve image quality.
Obviously, the PC version has multiple visual customization options, which is always the case. This is especially true with the PC version of The Division, as it was developed as a "separate platform" from the start.
"One good thing about The Division, is we've always considered the PC as a separate platform," said the developer. "I've worked on projects before where the PC versions were ports from the console, which carries limitations over, but we've always been of the mind that we'd have a dedicated PC build.
"We do kind of have to keep in check with the consoles, it would be kind of unfair to push it so far away from them, but it's been good having a dedicated PC version with this game. I'm really happy we're pushing the PC build as much as we are, there's a lot more customized options than the console."
You can listen to this part of the interview over on Team Epiphany's YouTube Channel. It all starts around the 13:10 mark.
The PC version of The Division is being developed in association with Red Storm, and Ubisoft Massive confirmed it was not a port back in January.
That same month, Arekkz played the PC version during a hands-on event and was impressed with the multitude of customization options ranging from graphics settings to key bindings.
He also played the game on PC with everything cranked up to Ultra settings, and didn't encounter any issues.
The Division will be released on March 8 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
