The Division 2 creative director wants to know if you're interested in a single-player spin-off
Can the world of The Division support a story-based off-shoot?
The question was actually first asked by TT Games designer Tim Spencer, who suggested it would be a good idea to create a new The Division game focusing on a single SHD agent.
The game would chronicle their story to return to home to their family following the SHD blackout in New York. Spencer, who shared the idea on Twitter, said it would be a Last of Us-style game set in The Division universe.
"None of the stories have explored what a Division agent sacrifices, and what they go through mentally. When you think about it: it’s a pretty dark/epic thing - there’s huge opportunity to tell some incredible stories there," said Spencer.
In response, The Division 2 creative director Julian Gerighty shared the same tweet on his timeline, asking if this is something fans would be interested in seeing.
So far, most responses have been enthusiastic about the idea, with many lamenting the light focus on story and characters in The Division games thus far. Though Gerighty acknowledged the positive reception, he obviously didn't say whether this indicates the idea will be moving forward.
Still, it's interesting to see Ubisoft is open to that kind of spin-off, considering this isn't something it often does with its big franchises.
