The community run Return to Lordran event is a good excuse to revisit - or finally play - Dark Souls

A community-run initiative on Reddit will be filling the servers of Dark Souls for the next three weeks.

While some people don't need an excuse to jump into Dark Souls, whether for the first or the fiftieth time, some motivation - and the promise that other players will be available to help - never hurts.

The second annual 'Return to Lordran' event is encouraging players to return to the game en masse, so that the servers are full and everyone can make use of the multiplayer options that are often difficult to find people for.

The post on Reddit that heralds the start of Return to Lordran also explains the origins of the event.

"Return to Lordran is an annual event that has grown out of the Dark Souls Global Restart Day, which initially started when r/darksouls hit 100,000 subscribers", the post reads. "Two years ago, it was decided to increase the Day to a full-on event, which became Return to Lordran. In the event, players will create new characters and play through the game, with a focus on the multiplayer aspects, as those are normally more difficult to find enough players for."

This event period runs until October 24.

Unfortunately we don't have a Dark Souls guide in our archives, but we certainly have a guide for Dark Souls 2 and another guide for Dark Souls 3, if you wrap up the first game and immediately want another challenge.

The original Dark Souls is available on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
