Brian Fargo will try to buy back Interplay if The Bard's Tale 4 sells 2M copies in 18 months

The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep released today, and if it sells well enough, inXile Entertainment's boss says he'll try to buy back Interplay Entertainment.

According to a tweet from Brain Fargo overnight, he is serious about trying to acquire Interplay, a company he co-founded in 1983.

Interplay was the original creator of the Fallout series and published the Baldur's Gate and Descent franchises.

"I'm asked what would we do if The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep on PC is a big hit," Fargo said. How about this stretch goal: I will attempt to buy Interplay back if we manage to sell over 2 million units in the first 18 months."

Buying Interplay back would include IP such as Dragon Wars, Earthworm Jim, Sacrifice and Kingpin, he said in a subsequent tweet.

The list of Interplay-developed and published games is a long one.

After a few years of financial issues and legal disputes, As of 2016, over 70 titles and dozens of character IP were sold off. Hopefully, inXile has kept track of them all.

The Bard's Tale 4: Barrows Deep started life as a Kickstarter project in 2015. Itwas released today on PC.
