Team Ninja cancels two projects announced before Itagaki's departure

Team Ninja has told Famitsu it has canceled two projects it was working on before Tomonobu Itagaki departed the development firm.

Speaking in the latest issue of the magazine, per Andriasang, the projects were Dead or Alive: Code Cronus and Project Progressive.

Team Ninja head Yosuke Hayashi said Code Cronus was "just on the framework level" anyway and Project Progressive was developed all the way through the "plot version", but was canned five years ago long before Itagaki left the firm.

However, work still continues on Ninja Gaiden 3, Ni-oh, and Dead or Alive: Dimensions.

"Ninja Gaiden 3 is a numbered title. We're developing it with the idea of restarting at the beginning, saying 'We'd like to make the action game that's most interesting for the current era'," said Hayashi. "With this meaning, it's going to be a game that's not bound by the past more than necessary.

"Of course, we will be valuing the past, but in a good meaning we'd like to make it into a game that's not tied down by the past. Development is progressing well [and] we've already completed an internal prototype. We held a sampling event for the prototype, and it was well received within the company. It will be a bit longer before we share info with everyone."

There's no set release date or window for any of the three titles being worked on from Team Ninja, but we'll keep our ears to the ground.
