Team Bondi made 140 "production bibles" for L.A. Noire
Team Bondi has lifted the lid on one of the factors which kept L.A. Noire down in the dark, vapourous depths for so long: a near-incredible level of attention to detail.
As part of a series of behind-the-scenes exposés into L.A. Noire's painstaking recreation of 1940's Los Angeles, production designer Simon Wood explained how the team compiled a massive amount of reference material and design briefs.
"We created ‘Production Bibles’ which are like production design style guides for all the locations in the game,” he said.
“The bibles have floorplans, material, dressing, graphics and signage, lighting details, and any other reference images that are needed to create the locations in the game. We made over 140 of them altogether.”
Team Bondi travelled to Los Angeles to perform location photo shoots, including a detailed study of one of the city's most frequently filmed buildings, the Barclay Hotel.
"Ben photographed every square inch of that hotel," Wood recalled.
Each of the 140 locations had to be kitted out with costumes for the multitude of characters appearing in each one. A second post reveals Team Bondi's collaboration with the largest costume company in Hollywood to perform hundreds of full-body 3D scans of various clothing items.
