Tax on "violent" videogames proposed by Missouri representative

Republican Diane Franklin of Camdenton, a representative of Missouri, believes a sales tax should be placed on violent video games following the elementary school massacre in Newtown, Connecticut.

In this context, Franklin doesn't appear to understand what "violence" actually means. As reported by PC Gamer, her bill proposes "the term ‘violent video game’ means a video or computer game that has received a rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board of Teen, Mature, or Adult Only."

By her logic, games such as The Sims 3 would receive sales tax. If the bill succeeds, games can expect a 1% tax that will be spent on financing mental health programs designed to stop mass shootings in the US.

It's worth noting no other medium is being targeted in the plans.
