Tablet shooter Morning Star is now called Midnight Star

Industrial Toys is a studio founded by Halo co-creator Alex Seropian, and they've been hard at work on a first person shooter for tablets. It was known as Morning Star, but the developer has decided to change the time of day and rebrand the project Midnight Star instead, due to another trademark application for the name.

"That means we had three options," wrote developer Tim Harris in a Gamasutra blog post. "Find a way to 'coexist' (agree to avoid confusion about the name and stay out of each other's way), create an agreement that would transfer the trademark to us or... change the name of the game we'd already announced. After the first option was ruled out, we started exploring the ramifications of two and three.

"Did we want to spend money to acquire the trademark - money that's super precious given we're a start-up making our first title - or upset the momentum we had behind a name with awareness and a following?"

Eventually the team took the third option of changing the name. There's no release date for Midnight Star just yet.

Thanks, Polygon.
