Switch indies: Mark of the Ninja Remastered, Hyper Light Drifter, Light Fall, Bomb Chicken, more
Nintendo has announced 14 indie games coming to Nintendo Switch in 2018.
A look at indie titles coming to Nintendo Switch in 2018 was provided earlier today during a short presentation.
During the Ninties Showcase, 14 titles were announced for release between spring and fall.
Well, 16 if you count Banner Saga and Banner Saga 2.
A remaster of Klei Entertainment's rather awesome Mark of the Ninja was announced for Switch. Originally released in 2012, the stealth action game will release on the console this fall.
More details on Mark of the Ninja Remastered are "in the works," according to Klei, so it's possible the game could be heading Xbox One. It would be great if it headed to PlayStation 4 as well, considering it was an Xbox 360 console exclusive when released.
West of Loathing, the super fun stick-figure Wild West adventure-RPG from Asymetric, will release on Nintendo Switch as a console exclusive this spring. If you can't wait due to a hankerin' for this silly western full of puzzles and turn-based combat, you can pick up West of Loathing on GOG and through Steam for PC and Mac. It will run you $11.
Abylight Studios and Heart Machine announced today Hyper Light Drifter would arrive on Nintendo Switch this summer. While information wasn't provided during the Ninties Showcase, the developer sent over a press release soon after.
Hyper Light Drifter is in development between Abylight Studios and Yoyo Games, developer of the engine “GameMaker” which was used to create the game. Hyper Light Drifter is currently available for Linux, Mac, Ouya, PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Stoic will release Banner Saga 3 this summer on Switch alongside PC and Mac. Banner Saga and Banner Saga 2 are also coming to the console, and all progress and choices from the first two games will carry over to Banner Saga 3.
Utterly gorgeous Light Fall from Bishop Games will release as a timed, console-exclusive this spring on Switch. The platforming adventure title is also set for release on Steam, PS4 and Xbox One sometime this month.
In it, players travel to "the forgotten world of Numbra," where by manipulating the Shadow Core they will be able to traverse the landscape.
A magical box, the Shadow Core is used to propel the player into the air, and in Speedrun Mode, players will use it to race other players to earn a place on the leaderboards.
In the mood for a platformer that combines action, puzzles and some arcade gameplay? Want to play as a chicken? You're in luck: Bomb Chicken from Nitrome was announced for Switch during the Ninties Showcase today.
Players will lay eggs, which are bombs, to escape various situations and to discover secret areas. Bomb Chicken launches first on Nintendo Switch this summer, and was greenlit on Steam Greenlight.
The super fun and wacky Death Road to Canada will arrive on Switch April 16. This insane game is so very random, and we mean that literally. Locations, events, survivor appearances and personalities are all randomized.
There’s a different story every time you play, and you can teach a dog how to drive a car. The game also feature two-player co-op and control of up to four characters. If you can't wait until April, grab Death Road to Canada off Steam, GOG or the Humble Store for PC. It is also available for iOS and is coming to PS4 and Xbox One.
Lumines Remastered is the HD remake of Tetsuya Mizuguchi's Lumines. In development at Enhanced Games, the game full of light, sound and puzzle-action can be played alone for with a friend in local multiplayer.
It releases on Nintendo Switch this spring, and will also be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. On the latter three platforms, it will feature support 4K support.
Just Shapes and Beats from Berzerk Studio is described as a "musical bullet hell” game heading to Switch this summer as a timed, console exclusive.
Players will navigate "deadly shapes" solo or in local or online co-op multiplayer. The soundtrack was composed by 20 chiptune artists. Just Shapes and Beats is also in development for PC and will be made available on Steam.
Fantasy Strike from Sirlin Games is heading to Switch. In this fantasy meets martial arts game, anything can become a weapon.
Players will also be able to fight it out with others in local or online multiplayer modes. Fantasy Strike has been in Steam Early Access since September 2017. It is also in development for PS4, and will be released this summer on three simultaneously.
Two Devolver Digital-published titles were also announced for Nintendo Switch: The Messenger and Reigns: Kings & Queens.
Developed by Sabotage, The Messenger allows players to transform the game from an 8-bit platformer into a rendered 16-bit time-traveling adventure. Players will find upgrades, new abilities, hidden levels and speed-running opportunities when it releases this summer for PC and console.
Reigns: Kings & Queens from Nerial puts players in the role of a monarch. In the game, they will face a "seemingly never-ending series of requests" from peasants, allies and enemies.
By swiping left or right in the game, players will be able to "impose their will" on the kingdom. Sounds right up our alley.
Reigns: Kings & Queens on Switch will feature an exclusive local co-op multiplayer mode when it launches this spring. If you can't wait until then, the Reigns: King & Queen Bundle is available through Steam.
Other titles coming to Switch this spring include Garage from tinyBuild Games, and Pode from Henchman & Goon.
Garage was inspired by "gory VHS era of B-movies," and is a top-down shooter set in a rather interesting underworld. Players will slay hordes zombies using a variety of weapons and skills.
Garage launches first on Nintendo Switch on May 10.
Pode from Henchman & Goon is single-player, co-op exploration puzzle game inspired by Norwegian art and culture. In it, players will guide an adorable little rock who is trying to help a fallen star find its way home.
As the duo travel, Bulder and Glo will "breathe life into an ancient sleeping world," and explore the ruins of a long lost civilization.
Rekim and Adult Swim Games announced Pool Panic will release first on Switch later this year and PC. It features over 100 levels with backdrops ranging from jungles to deserts.
It's basically a giant cartoon game of pool that features local multiplayer with up to four players. It also features evolving rule sets and mechanics.
Finally, the Viking-themed Bad North from Plausible Concept and Raw Fury was announced for a summer release. In Bad North, players will arm troops, shore up defenses and protect citizens in this rogue-lite, real-time strategy game.
It is also in development for PC and mobile platforms in 2018, and the official website mentions "consoles," so it's possible a PS4 and Xbox One release are also in the works.
