Suzuki reveals tons of brand new Shenmue 3 info: SPOILERS inside!
Don't look if you're trying to stay pure (until 2017).
Controls are intended to be simpler than in previous game, and combat will be more "cinematic". Suzuki added: "I don’t really play other games... I'm watching movies."
Shenmue 3 may not be releasing until 2017, but dev lead Yu Suzuki's already dishing out some real details on what promises to be the most anticipated Kickstarter game yet produced.
Speaking in a pair of interviews overnight, one with DualShockers and one with Shenmue Dojo, Suzuki confirmed there will be three main areas to the adventure, as well as four bosses.
Of the bosses, Lan Di, the series' main antagonist, is set to return, as will "two more fighters".
"The fourth, on the other hand, is a strategist, and she will using more cunning than head-on fighting," said Suzuki.
"She is an extremely beautiful and sexy but cruel woman. I briefly introduced her image in Shenmue II, but in Shenmue III she will have a proper and extensive role."
Shenmue 3 will contain dynamic weather and inaccessible areas of the map. A playable mountain region is set to feature.
Controls are intended to be simpler than in previous game, and combat will be more "cinematic". Suzuki added: "I don’t really play other games, because if you play games it’s too easy to be influenced by them, and, even if it is unintentional, one ends up losing their originality. On the other hand, I’m watching movies."
He said the team is currently working out the best way to include a "story digest," a montage of plot elements from the previous two games designed to bring players up to speed.
Suzuki also confirmed the team is considering allowing players to switch between English and Japanese voices.
From a technical standpoint, Suzuki said he's currently aiming for the PS4 version of Shenmue 3 to ship at 30 frames-per-second. The game is being built on Unreal Engine 4.
