Survarium Freeplay mode will have quests, storms and karma

Survarium developer Vostok Games has unveiled the upcoming Freeplay mode, which delivers a more familiar style of play to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. fans, but with several modern MMO twists.

Survarium's Freeplay mode will be where Vostok tells the games story, dividing narrative events into "seasons".

The first season will be told on a map which will be "much, much bigger than a usual PVP location", according to a recent Survarium developer diary.

The Freeplay map will be highly dangerous, and players will need to complete the main story quests and earn the gear necessary to earn access to the most high level areas.

Freeplay mode will not limit players by time but there will be a player cap, so that meeting others will be a special event. The world itself will tick on even if nobody's there to observe it. For example, mutants will roam the map, and every two hours there will be a storm event.

15 minutes before storms start, no new players will be able to join an area. Active players can use this time to find shelter. If they survive, they'll be able to collect rewards left by the storm. After another ten minutes, the rewards will vanish and new players will be allowed in.

Survivors will be divided into factions and the difficulty of missions will depend on the balance of power. There will be three types of quest: story, faction and random. Sometimes players will be given opposing mission goals, but their relationships to each other is up to them, and karma will be awarded based on how they behave.
