This weird, funny live-action Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD trailer is surprisingly convincing
Banana Blitz HD might not be the most exciting release, even for Monkey Ball fans, but this new trailer made us smile.
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz HD, a solid but unspectacular Wii launch game, is coming to Switch, PS4, Xbox One and PC on October 29. It marks the return of the long-dormant Super Monkey Ball series, which hasn't seen a new release since 2012's Super Monkey Ball: Banana Splitz for the PlayStation Vita (which was pretty good).
We've had a gameplay trailer for the new release already, but this new trailer captures the series' sense of humour, and its general strangeness, well enough that it has us a bit more excited to revisit the game.
The conceit here is that various actors have been brought in for the new, higher-fidelity Monkey Ball release, and...well, give it a watch yourself.
It's a fun bit of marketing for a game that otherwise isn't attracting a whole lot of hype (imagine a re-release of the first two games in the series!), and a good reminder that Super Monkey Ball is, at heart, pretty weird.
Also? Corey T. Gibbons is an inherently funny fake name. Good stuff. Hopefully Banana Blitz HD will hold up well when it launches later next month.
