Streets of Rage 4 powerslides onto Switch with new hero Cherry Hunter

Streets of Rage 4's newest character is a prog-rock puncher.

The vintage beat 'em up's 25-year sequel is making its way to Nintendo Switch. That news was quietly revealed in a new trailer released today, showing off new levels, new music, and a new justice-dealing vigilante. It's only been five whole months since the last trailer, after all.

New hero Cherry is the daughter of original Streets of Rage veteran Adam Hunter. Like all good kids, she ditched the whole "becoming a cop" lark to play hard (rock) and punch harder. You go, girl.

"Her interest in following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a cop soon faded out, replaced by her love of music," reads the official bio. "Nowadays, she plays with her electro progressive rock band in some of the most dangerous places in Wood Oak City. She may look young but make no mistake - she is a seasoned veteran of kicking ass and taking names."

Shredding the axe isn't just a background flair. In the trailer, we get a good look at Cherry slaying fools with the power of music. From blasting fans away with a sick shred or power sliding into the crowds, Cherry's axe has seen blood.

From the remaining silhouette on the closing screen, it looks like we could still have one more character reveal to go.

Streets of Rage 4 still doesn't have a release date. It'll hit PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on launch.
