Street Fighter creator Ono wants to do Vita fighting games properly

"We've been putting less energy into the porting process itself and more energy into adding additional features, because we don't want to do a straight-up port - that's silly and meaningless."

So says Street Fighter X Tekken producer Yoshinori Ono, when asked about bringing the game to Sony's new PlayStation Vita. He explains that directly moving the game itself doesn't present too many problems, but incorporating the Vita's innovative new features has created an interesting situation.

Chatting with Joystiq while at Tokyo Game Show, Ono explains that his team has been collaborating with the developers working on Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for the handheld, and the two of them have been working out how best to utilise the handheld's dual touch-screens.

While the game's still a little way off, you can forgive Ono for not being "entirely sure" how the rear touch panel in particular will be used. He does want to incorporate it in some way - like the multitouch at the front - but the details are still being ironed out. "We don't want a situation where you're accidentally throwing shoryukens because you moved your ring finger in the middle of a bout," he laughs.
