It may be almost August, but there's still some summer left for game announcements. Today, Capcom announced that a new stream is coming next week to talk about the future of Street Fighter 5.
The Street Fighter 5 Summer Update is currently scheduled for Aug. 5, 2020 at 10 a.m. PT / 1 p.m. ET, airing on the Capcom Fighters Twitch channel. The team behind Street Fighter 5 will be on the stream, as well as some special unannounced guests.
As for the content, Capcom says there will be "Season 5 character reveals, esports news, and more." The rollout is part of Street Fighter 5's "final" season, which has promised "V" more characters and three new stages. My fingers are crossed for Yun and Makoto, though a part of me wants to see Turkish oil wrestler Hakan get a spot too.
The timing is a bit strange though, given the roundtable discussion currently set for this Friday between most major Japanese fighting game studios. Capcom is scheduled to be in attendance, alongside Bandai Namco, Arc System Works, SNK, Koei Tecmo, and ARIKA. Two of Bandai Namco's big fighting games, Tekken 7 and Soulcalibur 6, are set to have some announcements, so maybe we'll just get a teaser on Friday for next week's big SF5 reveal.
It's exciting to know more characters are coming to Street Fighter 5. The game had a rough start, but has managed to somewhat right the ship with its Champion Edition update and has become a pretty solid Street Fighter all around. Its next-gen options are still a little up in the air, but for right now, the idea of jumping back in to learn some new characters seems like a good way to close out the summer.
