Street Fighter 5 pros battle it out for $350K in Capcom Cup, everyone else just gets ridiculous holiday, B-Boy costumes
Street Fighter 5 is getting some costumes! Oh yeah and there's some eSports thing happening or something.
It's a big week for Street Fighter 5: the Capcom Cup officially kicks off on December 2.
This two-day tournament clsoes out a year of competition. It has a total prize pool of $350,000 and the ultimate victor will score $120,000 (plus bonuses harvested from DLC sales) along with the title of Street Fighter 5 world champion 2016.
The finals will take place at PlayStation Experience on Saturday. This Capcom Cup info page has all he details on when and how to tune in to see the best Street Fighter 5 players in the world going at it.
And now for news I think we can all agree is far more important: Street Fighter 5 is getting holiday DLC. As you'll see in the (ridiculous) trailer above, there aren't that many ways to make a Santa costume interesting and once Capcom strips the women down to a bikini it seems to run out of ideas. I like Ken's hat, though.
Each of the six holiday costumes will go for $4/€4/£3.30 and comes with ten colour variations. There's also a stage on offer for $2/€2/£1.30 or 40K Fight Money. You can get everything in a bundle for $20/€20/£16. All of this stuff will only be available in Street Fighter 5 until January 17, but the launch date is yet to be confirmed; expect details during PlayStation Experience on Saturday.
In addition to holiday costumes, Ryu and Chun Li are getting B-Boy and B-Girl costumes respectively (although the other way around would have been very inetresting). These go for $4/€4/£3.30 each with ten colour variants, and have also not been dated. See some images on Capcom Unity.
It definitely seems like PlayStation Experience is the place to be this weekend if you have any interest in Street Fighter 5, doesn't it? The new costumes and holiday stage will in fact be playable on the show floor.
