See if your PC can run Steam VR headset Vive

HTC and Valve have detailed the specs your PC needs to meet in order to run the Vive, including a handy tool that benchmarks the whole thing.

Following the price announcement last night for the HTC/Valve Steam VR headset Vive, the company has updated the official page to include minimum PC specifications.

These requirements are largely similar to those of the Rift, with some exceptions. First up, HTC lists 4GB of RAM as a minimum, as opposed to the Rift's 8GB. The Vive also requires less USB 2.0 ports, but a more modern HDMI port 1.4 port, compared to 1.3 for the Rift.

You can use a Display Port 1.2 or better for the Vive, which is good news for higher-end GPU users.

On its part, Valve has release a new tool that's a lot better than Oculus' at determining if your PC is Vive-ready. The new tool can be downloaded through Steam from here, and on top of giving a detailed analysis of your hardware, it runs a benchmark and explains what your PC is good and bad at.

Also like the Rift, HTC is partnering with PC manufacturers to sell Vive-ready PCs.
