Steam's new UI has leaked through a Chinese CS:GO update
Steam's ageing library page is about to receive a makeover.
We first got a taste of Steam's new groove last November - and it looks like that update's on its way sooner rather than later.
That's if a leaked update to China's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive launcher is to be believed. SteamDB recently discovered that an update to the launcher mistakenly arrived with a whole new look to the Steam Client.
This new page looks much sleeker than the current list. Content is arranged in tiles, bringing it up to speed with competing storefronts, and there's a new home page keeping all your recent games, favourites and hot updates in one place.
There's good reason to believe it, too. The boffins over at Valve News Network discovered that anyone can try out the new library by downloading the Chinese client for Counter-Strike and pushing the relevant files into your steam client. It's just in there, ready to mess around with.
Like Steam's recent chat overhaul, the new Library is based on WebUI, opening the doors to flashier effects and smoother usage. There's a host of new organisational tools, new game banners, and searching options. Trading cards are now in three dimensions, and games will tell you if there's been a new update since the last time you played.
The current build is still work in progress. Some resolution options are broken, and the new page is a bit more RAM-hungry than previous iterations. But Steam's new UI has been in the making for over a year. This beta reveals a total overhaul could be imminent.
