Starbound beta due before end of the year, full game in 2014

Starbound developer Chucklefish has stated that the game's beta should be available before the end of 2013.
The interplanetary rouge-like was discussed in a new developer newsletter, picked up by Polygon.
It reads, "Game development is fairly unpredictable, though, especially on games as large as Starbound, and things often take much longer than we could have thought possible. Given that, we'd taken the stance that it's the beta that will definitely be available this year, not the full game."
The full game is due next year, and given its procedurally-generated nature, it's understandable that Starbound has taken some time to get to this point.
