Star Ocean: The Last Hope's 4K remaster is out this week, so here's some gameplay footage

This is about as clean as 4K and HD Remasters come.

Later this week Square Enix will release a new, remastered version of last generation's Star Ocean 4, or to give it its full, unwieldy and proper title Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 4K & Full HD Remaster.

Given that the game is so close, here's a new trailer with a bunch of the remastered gameplay footage on display - a great way to figure out if you feel the PS4 and PC release is going to be worth your time. The YouTube upload has full 4K quality, so be sure to set it to that for the best idea of how it's shaped up.

If you don't know much about Star Ocean: The Last Hope the number one thing you probably need to know is that it's one of the games that knowingly or not goes in hardest on the anime cheese. The lead character is called Edge Maverick (no, really) and it touches on every cliche you can imagine. It's a bit of a polarizing title, but I love it as a B-tier game unlike the most recent Star Ocean, which was just sort of dubious across the board.

The full-on doll-like anime art style lends itself well to being upscaled to 4K, so this is a pretty clean, simplistic remaster - the same stuff is being output at a higher quality, leading to a super crisp look. It doesn't look bad at all.

It arrives on Steam and PS4 worldwide on November 28.
