Square Enix isn't sure yet how many games the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project will be comprised of
The first installment of Final Fantasy 7 Remake coming early next year, but we're not entirely sure how many more are coming after that - and neither is Square Enix.
During E3 we've learned that Final Fantasy 7's first installment will be focused entirely on Midgar, and that it'll release on March 3, 2020. It's not entirely clear just how many installments we've getting after, though.
This information comes via a glowing hands-on report from Kotaku, which reports that the new version of Final Fantasy 7 feels "fleshed out" compared to the original.
At the top of the article, when quizzed on how many episodes there are going to be, producer Yoshinori Kitase admits that the developers are not clear on this themselves.
“At that point we decided we were going to focus (the) first game on Midgar and what happens in Midgar", Kitase says. "Unfortunately we can’t say anything more about the future games, because we don’t know ourselves.”
Midgar is portrayed as being enormous in the original Final Fantasy 7, but you don't spend a whole lot of time there in the grand scheme of things - it'll be interesting to see how much the developers flesh this area out, and what their approach will be to later sections of the game. It'll also be interesting to see if future installments remain PS4 releases.
In any case, we'll get our hands on Final Fantasy 7 Remake in March 2020, exclusively on PlayStation 4.
