Gex, Fear Effect, Anachronox up for potential remakes
Square Enix is making various Eidos IPs available for indie developers to use as part of its Collective initiative.
Square Enix announced today that it's making some of the Eidos IPs it currently owns available for developers to pitch on. Classic IPs such as Gex, Fear Effect, and Anachronox are available.
The announcement comes as a celebration of point-and-click adventure Goetia reaching its Kickstarter goal with a 48 hours left. Goetia is the third game to have its crowdfunding campaign benefit from the help of Square Enix' development initiative, the Collective.
Developers interested can present their submissions starting today. A blog post detailing how they can go about doing that is now live.
"I’m excited to see what talented teams might do with any one of Gex, Fear Effect or Anachronox IPs," said Phil Elliott, project lead on Collective. "We’ll monitor the response carefully before deciding which IPs to release next."
"We first announced we’d be opening up Eidos IPs for developers to pitch on, with our initial announcement of Collective in November 2013. Since then we’ve worked hard to establish the Collective platform as a viable place for small teams to build awareness for their ideas, and then for the community to feedback – and vote on those projects they’d potentially back through crowdfunding," he added.
Do you have any fond memories for any of those games?
