Spyro fan game receives cease and desist notice from Activision
An ambitious, fan-made sequel to the Spyro trilogy will be reworked now that Activision's lawyers have caught wind of it.
There are so many fan-based gaming projects which border on copyright infringement, it can be hard to guess which ones will get cease and desist letters. But if the actual copyright holder has a remaster coming out in two months, it's a safe bet you'll be noticed. Case in point, Spyro: Myths Awaken - a fan game heavily inspired by the original trilogy.
As reported by Eurogamer, Myths Awaken was an ambitious sequel to the original Spyro trilogy. It follows our hero on a quest to Mythica, where he must stop Medusa's quest for immortality. Unfortunately, with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy launching in November, Activision has responded with a cease and desist notice.
Thankfully, it's not all bad news for the Myths Awaken team. Creator Cyreides has announced that the project will be re-worked into an independent game that doesn't infringe on Activision's trademarks.
Given how these stories usually turn out, it's nice to hear Myths Awaken fans might actually get a finished game from it all - even if it's sans Spyro. The Reignited Trilogy, meanwhile, launches for PS4 and Xbox One on November 13, 2018.
