Splatoon takes GOTY at Tokyo Games Show
The 2015 award season is long past, but apparently that hasn't stopped the Computer Entertainment Supplier's Association from recognizing its unique games. Which is exactly how Splatoon - launched way back in May 2015 - was just awarded Game of the Year at this year's Tokyo Game Show.
What's more, Splatoon wasn't the only 2015 game acknowledged for its achievements. According to The Escapist, Monster Hunter Cross (renamed Generations in the West) received the Best Sales award for 3.3 million worldwide copies. Meanwhile, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and 3DS won Global Award for a Japanese Product, and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 pulled in the Global Award for a Foreign Product.
On top of that, several 2015 games were recognized with runner-up Awards of Excellence. The full list includes:
- Dark Souls III
- Dragon Quest Builders
- Fallout 4
- Metal Gear Solid V
- Minecraft
- Monster Hunter Cross
- Super Mario Maker
- The Witcher 3
- Yo-kai Watch Blasters
While it may be odd to reminisce about 2015 before entering the 2016 award season, it's great to see so many solid titles still acknowledged - especially unique and fun games like Splatoon. Was there anything you wish had made the list at the Tokyo Games Show?
