South Park: The Fractured But Whole trailer kicks off the franchise wars
South Park: The Fractured But Whole's latest trailer shows off superheroes, powers, and how the New Kid joined the franchise wars.
With Ubisoft's last South Park RPG, The Stick of Truth, we found a game willing to take loving shots at a beloved genre. With The Fractured But Whole, Ubisoft is turning its attention to superheroes with a "franchise war" tearing the town in two - and the latest E3 trailer gives a glimpse of how it begins.
While the South Park gang ran a large-scale competitive LARP in the previous game, this time all superheroes were supposed to be on the same side - until irreconcilable differences split the team down the middle. Now each "franchise" has decided the other side is full of traitors, and battles for supremacy. Once again, it falls to the New Kid to resolve the matter by infiltrating an opposing franchise, once again stumbling into a real-world crisis.
On a gameplay front, the trailer shows off a variety of superpowers from Jimmy's super-speed to Butter's powerful energy attacks. Of course, these powers can still be used in deeply immature ways - like Timmy calling Cartman a butthole using telepathy - but it wouldn't be South Park with any other approach, would it?
South Park: The Fractured But Whole launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 17, 2017.
