Source and Crysis Mod SDKs released

Good news for independent and up-and-coming developers, as a pair of software development kits go public.

AusGamers reports the Crysis 2 Mod SDK has rolled out, and is available from several gaming download portals.

New server files allowing players to test their creations have appeared, too.

Meanwhile, Valve has made the free release of the Source SDK official, Robin Walker confirmed with RPS.

"We are in the process of getting it all done. It’s a bit messy because we have multiple versions of the SDK, and there’s some dependencies we need to shake out," he said.

"But yes, the gist of it is that we’re just going to go ahead and make the Source SDK freely available."

Source SDK has actually been unofficially free for some time, as the only requirement for getting your hands on it is ownership of a Source-powered game, such as the free Alien Swarm.

The decision to make Team Fortress 2 prompted Reddit users to question the SDK's status, which in turn reminded Valve to do a bit of tidying and make the tech's status clear.

Thanks, Shack.
