Soundfall is a twin-stick shooter rhythm action hybrid from ex-Epic devs
Soundfall is top-down rhythm action game with twin-stick shooter elements.
If the premise sounds intriguing, wait until you watch the trailer. Soundfall is developed by Drastic Games, a team made up of former Epic Games developers.
The story follows Melody, an audiophile who must find a way to save the realm of Symphonia from Discord, the game's main villain. As you can see, Soundfall is very fond of its musical analogues.
The game's world, enemies, and loot are all procedurally-generated by musical elements. As the songs change, so too do the levels themselves. There's a timing element, too, which is where the rhythm action component comes in.
It looks pretty smooth in motion, with combat moves flowing well with the changing environments and enemy spawns and subsequent deaths - an evolved version of Crypt of the NecroDancer in a way.
Soundfall is in development for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch - due for release in 2019. Attendees of EGX, PAX West, and PAX Australia will be able to go hands-on with the game.
