Sony: US Vita launch met with "overwhelming enthusiasm"

In a press statement issued in the wake of the February NPD report, Sony has described the Vita launch as generating "exceptional" sales.

"After months of anticipation, the U.S. launch of PlayStation Vita saw overwhelming enthusiasm amongst gamers, resulting in exceptional hardware, software and peripheral sales," SCEA's corporate communications boss Patrick Seybold said.

Sony did not give any hard numbers regarding the launch, sticking by previously released figures.

"As reported last week, more than 1.2M PS Vita units have been sold globally since launch," Seybold reaffirmed.

"Customer satisfaction rates are very high and momentum will continue as gamers get their hands on a deep lineup of blockbuster titles that take advantage of PS Vita's unique features, including cross-platform play with the PlayStation 3."

The Vita launched in late February and as such only features for four days in the NPD Group's February tracking; even that small period produced a reasonable blip in hardware sales.
